Designed by Michael Cumming Architect, Bonny Bronte is an environmentally conscious beach house built around its natural surroundings. Nestled amid lush greenery with ocean glimpses and a short stroll to the beach, the home looks out over a gully full of trees that shaped the design thinking from the very beginning. The central challenge was capturing natural light and airflow without losing the relaxed charm of a seaside retreat – solved through a double-height void at the heart of the floor plan that floods the interior with sunlight, draws sea breezes through south-east windows, and anchors the space with a sculptural steel staircase.

We were engaged as the joinery consultant, working closely alongside Michael Cumming Architect and AJP Constructions, to ensure every joinery element was specified and delivered to the highest standard. Our focus in supplier selection was finding specialists whose craft and approach genuinely aligned with the nature-driven vision the architect had set out – ensuring the joinery contributed meaningfully to the overall aesthetic rather than simply fulfilling a functional brief. The result is a coastal retreat that responds to its surroundings rather than imposing upon them.
